DONNELLSON – The Central Lee Lady Hawks didn’t make it out of bracket play at their own Invitational tournament Saturday in Donnellson, however Head Coach Amy Cook was happy with the Lady Hawks' play.
“Overall, the girls played well, we just need to focus on staying involved in every play of every set,” Cook said.
The Hounds dropped Keokuk easily 21-9, 21-10 to open play. Halle Lampe and Taylor Jones each had four kills in the win. Lampe was also 11 of 13 serving. Ellie Lake was 10 of 11 at the service line and had six digs.
Central Lee then fell by one in a tight match with Durant 20-22, 23-21, 14-15. Lampe had eight kills on 22 attempts with just two errors. Lizzy Mason had 11 kills and Jones finished the match with 14.
Jalyn Hawk was a perfect 10-of-10 at the service line and Jayden Mueller was 8-of-8 with 28 digs. Burlington then set the Hawks back 21-17, 21-4 before the ladies rebounded with a 21-16, 21-12 win over Centerville to end the day. Kylie Fortune had three blocks in the win over Centerville. Lampe and Jones had five kills apiece.
The Lady Hawks (3-2) travel to Wapello Tuesday at 4:30 for an eight-team invitational along with the No. 2 Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders, in their first action of the season.
