Crusaders sweep through field at Mepo quadrangular

Bloodhounds drop three as regular season winds down

MEDIAPOLIS - Holy Trinity Catholic swept through the field at the year-end Mediapolis Quadrangular Thursday night dropping just one set on the night.

The Crusaders started slow with a 16-25 loss to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont before rebounding for a 25-20 game two win and then taking the tiebreaker 15-10.

HTC had very little test the rest of the night downing Mediapolis 25-21, 25-14 and then dispatching the Fort Madison Bloodhounds 25-10, 25-15.

Mary Kate Bendlage led the Crusaders with 21 kills and 26 digs on the night. She was also 33-34 serving with an ace.  Freshman Presley Myers had 13 kills, while Anna Bendlage had 45 assists and 23 digs.

Fort Madison lost 16-25, 13-25 to Mediapolis and 11-25, 17-25 to E-B-F.

Taylor Johnson had 13 kills and three blocks for the Hounds. Aija Jenkins had 10 kills. Amy Yasenchok had 17 digs, while Isabella Boeding served 17-18 with an ace. Lauryn Helmick was 18 of 19 serving.

The  Crusaders start post-season play in Class 1A Region 8 Monday night at 7 p.m. at Shottenkirk Gymnasium against Wayne (4-19). The second round will be against the winner of Sigourney (21-6)/Seymour (17-10) on Wednesday night again at Holy Trinity Catholic. Also in the bottom half of the bracket is WACO, Melcher-Dallas, North Mahaska and Mormon Trail.

The Class 1A Regional semifinals are also at HTC on Monday, Oct 24, with the finals on Wednesday Oct. 26 at a site to be determined by the higher seed. All games are at 7 p.m.

On the top side of the Region 8 bracket is Burlington Notre Dame, Winfield Mt. Union, Moulton-Udell, Moravia, Twin Cedars, Keota and Wapello. The semis in that bracket are played at Burlington Notre Dame.

In 4A, Fort Madison starts on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at Keokuk. The winner will take on North Scott at North Scott on Thursday, Oct. 20. Burlington, Mt. Pleasant and Oskaloosa.
