Dems to hold annual ice cream social

Candidates to speak at Montrose's Riverfront Inc. Sunday at 2 p.m.

MONTROSE - The Lee County Democratic Party will hold its annual Ice Cream Social this coming Sunday, July 28, at 2:00 – 5:00 pm. They will be at the Riverfront, Inc., 203 N. 1st Street, Montrose. The event is an opportunity for local Democrats and independents to enjoy desserts and ice cream while listening to speakers, meeting candidates, and enjoying the afternoon together.
The guest speaker will be State Senator Cindy Winkler, District 49. Senator Winkler is serving her first term in the Iowa Senate after serving eleven terms in the Iowa House. She spent her career as a family and consumer science teacher and with the Mississippi Bend AEA. Senator Winkler was named to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in February 2000. 
Other speakers will be the Democratic candidates for state and local office. Nannette Griffin, soon to be former owner of Griffin Muffler and Brake Center in Fort Madison, is running for State Senate – District 50. Roslyn Garcia, who is employed at the Lee County Attorney’s Office, is the Democratic candidate for Lee County Auditor. Sheriff Stacy Weber, a thirty year veteran of local law enforcement, is running for re-election. Lee County Supervisors Ron Fedler and Matt Pflug, are running for re-election in Districts 1 and 5. Teresa Murray, former Lee County Assessor is the Democratic candidate for County Supervisor – District 4.
