Potential flooding nixes annual Light up the Sky This Fourth of July

Posted

FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison annual Light Up the Sky This Fourth of July is being rescheduled due to potential flooding, according to a release from Fort Madison Partners Wednesday.
"Well, it comes with a deep sigh that the Mississippi River has once again created a situation that is causing us to postpone the 4th of July Fireworks here in Fort Madison," Gobble wrote.
"With the river anticipated to continue to rise through the weekend, the technicians would have difficulty getting to the site without potential damage to the shells and launching equipment, as well as themselves.
"This is not what we wanted and completely out of our control. A new date has not been determined so we will alert news outlets as soon as we have it rescheduled.
Gobble said he wanted to thank all those that helped fund the event and they still hope to get the event put on in July.
