Fort Madison PD gets Coralville man on sex abuse charges

The Fort Madison Police Department announces the arrest of Scott C. Barnum, 54, of Coralville, IA, stemming from a 2021 investigation into the sexual abuse of a minor.
Barnum was taken into custody on May 17th, 2023, by the University of Iowa Police Department, and extradited back to the Lee County Jail where he remains pending an initial court appearance. He is charged with 3rd Degree Sex Abuse of a Child, a class C felony, and Enticing a Minor, a class D felony.
The suspect was previously unidentified until March of 2023, when FMPD detectives were able to connect Barnum to the case. On April 21st, 2023, a search warrant was conducted on Barnum’s residence in Coralville, and he was interviewed at the time.
The Fort Madison Police Department was assisted by the following agencies: Homeland Security Investigations, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations-Cybercrimes, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation K9 Unit, Coralville Police Department, University of Iowa Police Department, and Cedar Rapids Police Department Criminal Investigations.
The public is reminded these charges are an indictment, and that Barnum is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
