Hawks fall on road to Centerville

Class 2A Playoffs start next Friday at Monticello

CENTERVILLE - The Central Lee boys wrapped up their regular season Friday night with a loss on the road at Centerville 44-7.
The Big Reds put up two touchdowns in the first quarter, the first on a 1-yard touchdown and the second on a 12-yard pass play to jump out to quick 14-0 lead.
The Hawks defense couldn't get squared up as Centerville scored three more times in the second quarter, one on a 51-yard fumble scoop and run with 8:58 left in the half.
A 4-yard pass play with 2:18 left put the Red up 36-0.
The running clock was kicked in quick in the third quarter when Centerville returned the 2nd half kick 81-yards for a score to make it 44-0.
Central Lee would finally get on the board when Cory Jones found Kegan Damico from 13-yards out to avoid the shut out.
Jones finished with 3 of 10 passing for 35 yards and the score.
Cayden Kalfee was 4-10 for 47 yards.
Jones also led the Hawks on the ground rushing for 58 yards on four carries, and had two catches for 39 yards.
Sophomore Chase Johnson had the attention of the Reds' defense getting just 30 yards on 12 carries.
Hunter Gregory had six tackles on the night. Braedon Barlow had the Hawks' only sack and James Hemingson had 2.5 tackles for loss.
The Hawks fall to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in Class 2A District 6 action. They will travel to Monticello on Friday night to open Class 2A post season play at 7 p.m.
