HTC splits with Central Lee, Danville

Lady Hawks down Crusaders 15-8 Friday

WEST POINT – Central Lee girls started quick with eight runs in the first two innings to lift them to a win over cross-county rival Holy Trinity Catholic Friday 15-8.

The Hawks got three hits each from Alix Congdon, ­­­Jaci Hawk, Shanna Buford, Bailey Schwartz, and Carlee Pezley enroute to a 19-hit performance against the Crusaders.

Pezley and Kenna Sandoval combined for seven RBIs in the win.

Central Lee’s Everlee Harvey went 5 2/3 innings giving up just two earned runs on two hits, while fanning three and walking two.

Mary Hellige went the distance for HTC giving up 19 hits and 15 runs, just nine earned in the loss.

Hellige and Brooke Mueller had the two hits in the game off Harvey. Schwartz came on in relief and threw 1 1/3 hitless innings, but walked five and allowed five to score.

Jenna DiPrima had two RBIs. Hellige and Mueller each had two runs scored.

Congdon scored four runs to lead the Lady Hawks.  Sandoval and Schwartz each had three runs on three hits for Central Lee.

The Lady Hawks move to 2-0 in SEI Superconference and 3-4 overall. They travel to New London tonight for a 7 p.m. game.

The Crusaders fell to 1-2 in the conference and 2-2 overall with the loss.

Holy Trinity rebounded with a 14-2 win over Danville Tuesday night. Hellige went 4-4 with three runs scored and recorded her 200th high school strikeout on the mound for the Crusaders.

Cain, Hellige, and Mueller all had three hits for the Crusaders.  Hellige and Mueller each had 3 RBIs for HTC.

Hellige went the distance again for HTC striking out five and walking just one on one earned run and three hits.
