WEST POINT – The HTC girls softball team has won three of its last four games including a 9-2 win over Mediapolis Thursday night at South Park.
The Crusaders racked up 11 hits while senior Mary Hellige went to work fanning 13 going all seven innings.
Hellige was also 2-2 at the plate with three runs scored and a couple RBI.
Brooke Mueller led Holy Trinity at the plate going 3-4 with 4 RBI and a run scored.
HTC led 3-0 through five innings but put on two more in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Mueller tripled to left center on a 2-2 pitch with two outs in the 3rd to get things going for the Crusaders. She drove in Hellige and Kayla Box who both reached on walks.
Halie Cain tripled to right to open the fifth inning and Hellige followed with a triple scoring Cain before Box hit a sacrifice to left to score Hellige and give the Crusaders a 5-0 lead.
Mediapolis would put two runs on the board unearned in the top of the sixth, but that’s all Hellige would allow.
The Bulldogs got a flyout to start the bottom of the six, but Holy Trinity rallied with the next eight hitters reaching base. Hellige tripled and Box was hit by a pitch putting two on. Box swiped second and Mueller drove in both with a single to right. Mueller would score on Rachel Menke’s RBI single to set the score at 9-2.
Hellige took care of business in the top of the ninth to get the win.
The Crusaders (3-2, 3-3) take on New London (0-2, 0-2) tonight on the road in SEI Superconference matchup.
