Keokuk's Killoren opens IHSAA state tourney

Junior sang opening day National Anthem at Wells-Fargo

KEOKUK, Iowa - Keokuk High School junior Carter Killoren was selected as a soloist to perform the National Anthem at the 100th opening ceremony of the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) State Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 19 at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. 
“This is an incredible honor and a moment of pride for both Carter and our entire school,” KHS Vocal Director Jason Woodley, said. “Carter’s dedication to his craft and his passion for performance have truly shone through. We were excited to see him represent Keokuk High School on such a prestigious stage.”
The state wrestling tournament is one of the largest and most anticipated sporting events in Iowa and this year marked a century of state wrestling. Killoren’s performance kicked off the celebration. Out of 90 students who auditioned, Killoren was chosen for his vocal talent and stage presence. The selection was made by the Iowa High School Music Association (IHSMA) and the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), organizations.
“Having a student from Keokuk High School perform at such a momentous occasion is a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering talented and dedicated students,” Woodley added. Carter’s performance was “a standout moment in the opening ceremonies of the tournament. Please join us in congratulating Carter Killoren on this outstanding accomplishment!”
