Lorenzo J. Stephenson, age 90, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, IA. after a long struggle with congestive heart disease. He was visiting his youngest son at the time of his passing. Lorenzo was a lifelong resident of Coldwater, Michigan.
Lorenzo was born on May 16, 1934 in Mendon Michigan at home and is survived by his wife, Virginia (Parshall) his three sons, Tom, Jonesville, MI. John of Coldwater MI, and Jim of Fort Madison IA. He has 5 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, three sisters Marion of Weberville, Betty Dodge of Weberville, Lucinda of Jackson, Brother Jack of Kalamazoo. Preceded in death by his brother Wayne, Mother Florence, Father Lorenzo.
Lorenzo attended Coldwater High School and worked as the plant operations manager for the Water Department, Coldwater. After retiring full time, he worked as the grounds keeper for Blackberry Patch golf course. Lorenzo enjoyed playing golf, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Lorenzo was in the Navy and served during the Korean war as a small equipment mechanic and was stationed in the Mediterranean. He always enjoyed telling the story of fixing Errol Flynn’s typewriter personally on his yacht that was cruising the area. Mr. Flynn’s typewriter broke and the yacht pulled up to the Navy ship Lorenzo was assigned to; Mr. Flynn asked the Navy ships captain if there was anyone who could fix his typewriter so he could finish the novel he was working on.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory of Fort Madison, IA. At his request, no public service is scheduled. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association at
