Lady Hounds open year with two road wins

Kruse has 30 points on the year as Hounds roll

DAVIS COUNTY - The Fort Madison girls basketball team is off to strong start capturing it's first two wins of the year both on the road.

Fort Madison moved to 2-0 with a 58-33 win over Davis County Tuesday night.

Camille Kruse poured in 22 points to lead the Lady Hounds. She also had five assists, three steals and two blocked shots in the win.

Irelynd Sargent was also in double figures with 10 points and seven rebounds, while handing out four assists.

Halle Menke had seven points for Fort Madison and seven boards, while Molly Knipe and Taylor Johnson each chipped in with six points.

Fort Madison raced out to an 18-8 first quarter advantage and then held the Mustangs to just three points in the second quarter on the way to a 28-11 first half advantage.

The defense held up in the third quarter limiting Davis County to just five points while the Hounds pulled away for the win.

Last Monday, the Bloodhounds opened the year with a 34-25 win over Ottumwa on the road.

Knipe had nine points and 13 rebounds to lead Fort Madison.

Kruse had eight points and Sargent had seven in the win.

Kruse is second in scoring in the Southeast Conference with 30 points, just one point behind Mt. Pleasant's Andrea Lapreato. Kruse is first in assists and steals in the conference.

Fort Madison opens the home season this Friday when Mt. Pleasant comes to the Hound Dome.
