Lady Hounds take 2nd title in eight days

Rump leads girls again, Bloodhound boys 2nd

MOUNT PLEASANT – The Fort Madison girls are on their best team pace in many years as they took 1st place again Tuesday night at the Mt. Pleasant Invitational.
The Lady Hounds finished with 32 total points, 11 ahead of second-place Washington. The girls won the Timm Lamb Invitational last week in Fort Madison at Rodeo Park and are hitting the right stride at the right time.
Fort Madison captured 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th place and then rounded out the scoring runners with an 11th place for 32 points. Avery Rump took 3rd with 20:28.37. Keokuk’s Hannah Karre got in the middle of sweep there for the Bloodhounds, and then Ellie Hellman, Addison Rump, and Jordyn Marshall all followed each other in with 20:37.71, 20:43.45, and 20:45.20. McKayla Schinstock wrapped up the scoring runners with a 21:31.20.
Ellie Huebner ran a 23:15.31 for 21st place overall.
The Fort Madison boys captured second place as they continue to finish toward the tops of team scoring boards.
The Hounds slipped into second with 50 points, with Washington winning the 3A/4A event with 27 points. Keokuk was 6th with 165 points. In the 1A/2A run, Central Lee was 6th with 180 points and Holy Trinity was 8th with 235.
Riley Tripp led Fort Madison this time with a 5th place 17:23.98 with Jacob Shottenkirk about 10 seconds behind at 17:32.72 for 6th in the 3A/4A. Mason McLey and Peyton Lambert ran together around the three-mile track finishing 12th and 13th with a 17:57.48 and an 18:00.17. Hunter Wiegand rounded out the scoring runners for Fort Madison with an 18:06.47 (14th).
Other runners for the Hounds were Calvin Johnson 18:27.42 (18th), Jacob Walker 18:41.23 (21st), Noah Schinstock 19:40.48, and Jake Haessig 23:09.61.
Back over on the girls' side, Central Lee was 5th with 122 points. Their top five included Evelyn Adkins at 22:24.20 (11th in 1A/2A), Macy Anderson 23:17.76 (20th), Aubree Bunnell 24:14.83 (24th), Charlee Clay 25:30.96 (30th), and Gabby Maynes 26:10.46 (37th).
Other runners included Afton Maynes 26:14.53 (38th). Also running for the Hawks was Saphire Cummings 29:40.65 (43rd).
The Hawks’ boys were led by Kaiden Humes who surpassed Leo Thomas for the first time this season. Humes ran a 20:04.74 (33rd) followed by Thomas with a 20:08.86 (34th). Caedon Newton also scored for the Hawks with a 36th place 20:25.48. Austin Fogarty and Caden Crozier rounded out the boys' top 5 for Central Lee with a 38th and 39th place finish. Fogarty ran a 20:26.943 and Crozier ran a 20:27.14.
Other runners for Central Lee were Jovan Rule 20:37.74, Ayden Kent 20:57.98, Keegan Westball 22:41.71, Beau Boyd 23:04.30, Mason Sanders with a 24:59.99, and Riley Salter-Rickman 25:02.44.
Holy Trinity’s top five were Tanner Williams with a 21:06.67 (50th), Jay Ellison 21:16.92 (51st), Adam Sobczak 23:40.91 (53rd), Layne Rung 23:41.49 (54th), Tate Green 23:42.99 (55th). Also competing were Luke Hellige 25:27.83 and Jacob Baker 26:48.09.
