LCHD has radon test kits available

Posted

LEE COUNTY - January is National Radon Action Month, and Lee County Health Department would like to encourage everyone to take steps to protect their family.  Radon is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas.  It is from the natural breakdown of uranium in the soil, rock, and water in the ground that gets into the air we breathe.  Radon moves into homes through cracks in the floors and walls, joints, gaps in suspended floors, etc.  One might think that radon is an issue for older homes, but it is a concern for all homes.

“The best way to protect your family is to test your home,” says Michael Shelangoski, LCHD Environmental Program Director.  “It is easy, low cost, and takes only a few minutes.”

Radon test kits can be purchased at LCHD office (#3 John Bennett Drive, Ft. Madison) for $10.00.  For more information on radon and the test kits please call LCHD at (319)372-5225 or (800)458-6672.
