Meyer gets 40 years on felony sex charges

FORT MADISON -  A Fort Madison man was sentenced to 40 year in prison after being found guilty of felony sex crimes.
On Friday,  Charles Dean Meyer (51) of Fort Madison, made an appearance in Lee County District Court and received a 40-year sentence to the Iowa Department of Corrections.
Meyer was convicted of two counts of Sexual Abuse in the 3rd degree (class c felony) each carrying a 10-year sentence, and 10 separate counts of Invasion of Privacy (aggravated misdemeanor)
each carrying a 2-year sentence.
The 40-year prison term was the maximum allowed under the
conditions of the plea agreement reached in this case. The judge also ordered that the periods of confinement run consecutively. Meyer will also have to register as a sex offender and will be
placed on lifetime parole upon his release.
Meyer was the suspect in a two-year investigation by the Fort Madison Police Department into the sexual abuse of a minor, and the placing of concealed cameras within the women’s restroom
of Vel’s Amigo’s Restaurant where Meyer was employed.
