PORT Spooktakular run set for Oct. 29

FORT MADISON - PORT (Promoting Outdoor Recreational Trails) of Fort Madison will be holding their eigth annual Spooktakular fundraiser for recreational trails in Fort Madison.  The Spooktakular Boo-athlon will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center pond trail.

The 2022 route will incorporate Phase III from the hospital to 48th Street, travel up Avenue L to Ivanhoe Park, catch Phase I at the park and then follow Phase II back to 48th Street and Phase III back to the hospital pond.  Registration and the start of each race will take place at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center starting at 7:30 a.m.

This multi-faceted event is sure to bring out all the ghosts and goblins who run, walk or stroll. Events include Kid’s Race; 5K Run/Walk, and a 10K Run/Walk.  There will be prizes, refreshments and fun. 

Participants are encouraged to wear costumes- prizes will be awarded for different costume categories.  Registration forms can be found online at www.fortmadison-ia.com under the Community tab/PORT; on the PORT of Fort Madison Facebook page.

Registration includes a long-sleeve spooktakular t-shirt (while supplies last). The Spooktakular is a community focused fundraising event.  Matt’s Greenhouse will once again be our premiere sponsor and the exclusive sponsor of the Kid’s Runs. Many other corporate sponsors support this fundraising event for recreational trails. 

PORT of Fort Madison received multiple grants and donations to fund the first three phases of the trail and a generous donation from the Great River Health Foundation to fund the Rodeo Connector Trail. The next phase along 48th Street, running along the Baxter Sports Complex is in the planning and funding stage.

PORT of Fort Madison operates as a subcommittee under the Parks & Recreation Department of the City of Fort Madison with the mission to improve and promote the walkability, run-ability and bike-ability of Fort Madison.  The committee is made up of a volunteer group of community members.  For more information or to make a donation go to the PORT of Fort Madison Facebook page.
