Ray W. Tuttle, 88, of Fort Madison, formerly of Nauvoo, passed away at 4:09 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2023, with his long time companion Jeanne Willson and his daughters by his side at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

He was born on October 17, 1934, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Gertrude Tuttle. He married Bonnie Stapp, they later divorced. 

He is survived by his long time companion Jeanne Willson of Fort Madison, daughters: Nancy (John) Symmonds of Keokuk and Charlene Symmonds of Hamilton; grandchildren: William Tuttle, Jaime (Jeff) Bair, Christopher Symmonds, Nicole (Steve) Morris, Adrianne Tuttle, John Michael (Cailyn Spiker) Symmonds, Jennifer (Josh) Stover; step granddaughter: Kelly Symmonds; great grandchildren: Jaiden, Neveah, Martell, Ryan, Jackson, Julianna, Jaidyn, Juelz, LeBron and Diamond; step great grandchildren: Kyndall and Nevaeh; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Also surviving are Jeanne’s daughters whom he thought of as family: Martha Dayns, Karla Sherwood, Eva Rashid; Jeanne’s grandchildren and great grandchildren who were like family to him: Arthur Sherwood, Jeannine (Kevin) Eid, Ashley Kohl, David (Jennifer) Wong, Michael Wong, Rachel DeGelos; great grandchildren: Relina, Layla, Von, Victor, Micah, Riley, Nathan, Natalya, Kevin, Jaxon, Addalynn, Faith, Zach, Dominic, Maya, Arianna, Amelia, Marek and Troian; siblings: Richard McQueen of Quincy, Donald McQueen of Quincy and Carol McQueen of Georgia. 

He was preceded in death by his mother; sons: Ray Jr., Gary and David; sisters: Shirley, Laura and Helen. 

Ray was a United States Army veteran. He retired from Fruehauf later Wabash. He enjoyed dancing, geode hunting, collecting walnuts, fishing, horses, puzzles, watching westerns and spending time with family. 

His body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz-Banks & Beals Funeral Home for cremation.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Schmitz-Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo. 

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Schmitz-Banks & Beals Funeral home with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. 

Burial will be in Nauvoo City Cemetery. 

A memorial has been established for Nauvoo Public Library.
