Lawrence Dee Hopp, 84, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 10:44 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at his home.
 
He was born on April 30, 1938, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Dee Lawrence and Marian Marie (Hierstein) Hopp. On May 30, 1959, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, he married Betty Marlene Kraft.
 
Survivors include his wife: Betty; six children: Carrie (Kyle) Jenkins of Nauvoo, Illinois, Cindy Sanders of Nauvoo, Illinois, Michael (Melissa) Hopp of Burlington, Iowa, Diana Hopp of Fort Madison, Iowa, Jim Hopp of Nauvoo, Illinois and Brian Hopp of Terre Haute, Indiana; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters: Victoria Newton of Nauvoo, Illinois and Connie (John) McCarty of Nauvoo, Illinois; two brothers: Danny Hopp of Conuello, California and Steve Hopp of Fort Mohave, Arizona. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Tony Hopp, sister: Judy Riesing; two brothers: Joe and Bill Hopp; one sister and six brothers in infancy.
 
Larry graduated in 1956 from Nauvoo High School. He retired from the United States Navy as a CTMCM after twenty years. Larry then worked as a maintenance engineer for Sisters of Saint Benedict for twenty-five years. He served on the Nauvoo Fire and Rescue, Nauvoo City Council and ran the Share Food Program. Larry was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Galitzan Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, a past Grand Knight of the Alleman Council Knights of Columbus and a member of the Nauvoo American Legion Post #711.
 
Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon, Sunday, July 31, 2022 at the Schmitz Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2022. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo with Father Tony Trosley as celebrant.
 
After the Mass of Christian Burial his body will be cremated with burial at a later date in the Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.
 
A memorial has been established in his memory for Saints Peter and Paul School.
