Suspect arrested in WB swimming pool shooting

WEST BURLINGTON - A suspect has been arrested and charged with four crimes including attempted murder in the investigation of a shooting at the West Burlington City swimming pool Tuesday.

On Sunday, the Cedar Rapids Police Department conducted a search warrant on an apartment after receiving a tip that Terence Jay Gordan was at the apartment. Gordan, age 30, was wanted on four separate warrants: Going Armed with Intent, Assault causing serious injury, Willful Injury-serious injury, and attempted murder.

These warrants were issued in connection to the Tuesday, June 14, shooting at the pool. The Cedar Rapids Police located Gordon in the apartment where he was taken into custody and is being held with no bond pending a court appearance.

The West Burlington Police Department thanked the public for their assistance in locating Gordon in a release sent out Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 4:44 p.m.,Tuesday, West Burlington Police received reports of shots being fired at the West Burlington Municipal Pool, located at 602 West Burlington Avenue. Upon arrival, authorities found Devontae Richardson, 28, bleeding from a single gunshot wound to the face.

Richardson was transported to the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center and eventually was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where he was listed in stable condition.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
