Task force arrests habitual offender in Keokuk

The Lee County Narcotics Task Force reports the arrest of a Keokuk man on felony drug and weapons charges.

On 10/25/2022, Zachary Bennett, 27, of Keokuk, Iowa, was arrested in the 1300 block of Carroll Street in Keokuk. Bennett was taken into custody on numerous felony warrants, including: Possession with Intent to Deliver More Than 5 Grams Methamphetamine – Class B Felony; two counts of Possession of Firearm by Felon – Class D Felony; Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana – Class D Felony; Drug Tax Stamp Violation – Class D Felony.

A search of Bennett’s property revealed a large quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana, along with numerous items of drug paraphernalia. Bennett was additionally charged with: Possession with Intent to Deliver More Than 5 Grams Methamphetamine; Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana; Drug Tax Stamp Violation; Possession of Controlled Substances; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The punishments for the charges are enhanced as Bennett is a habitual offender and was within 1,000 feet of a public park.   

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Keokuk Police Department, and the Lee County Attorney’s Office assisted the Lee County Narcotics Task Force in these investigations.

The defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The Lee County Narcotics Task Force is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Justice and the funds administered by the Iowa Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy.
