Vigen Memorial Home obituary – General Grant Franklin, 79, Montrose

General Grant Franklin, 79, of Montrose, IA, died Saturday, March 25, 2023 at his home.

He was born April 9, 1943 near Batavia, IA, in a place called "Turkey Stretch", or so he said, the son of Robert and Guida Mae Brewer Franklin.  He graduated from Van Buren High School with the class of 1960. 

General was a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1961-1965.

He had been self-employed as a farmer and carpenter for many years.

General enjoyed the outdoors.  He also enjoyed woodworking and could fix nearly anything. General loved stopping at the local coffee shop to visit with his close friends but above all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his former wife Arlene Sather Johnsen, his children, Lee Franklin (Nichole) of Burlington, IA, Tom Franklin (Julia) of New London, IA and William Franklin (Misty) of Bakersfield, CA and numerous grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by one brother, Gary Franklin (Sharon) of Douds, IA.

General was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Richard Franklin, Leo Franklin, Robert Franklin, John Franklin and one grandson, Pearson Franklin.

Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 5 at 11 a.m. in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
