Barr Memorial Chapel obituary – Steven A. Dekat, 79, Fort Madison

Steven A. Dekat, 79 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died Saturday, April 13, 2024 at his home.  He was born September 12, 1944 in Kansas, a son of Arthur and Celia Dekat.  On July 21, 1974 he married Stephanie Otte. 

Steven was a tool and die maker, and worked for Fruehauf until they closed.  He was a gunsmith, and owned and operated a shop in Fort Madison for years.  He was of the Catholic faith.  He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the Tri-State Gun Club, Montrose, Iowa.  He loved his dogs, Brandy and Pebbles.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Dekat of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter, Kerry (Richard) Bolander of Burlington, Iowa; other extended family members and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Kevin Karhoff, two brothers, Bob and Kenny, and a sister-in-law Sandy Courtney.
