WP mayor clarifies statement on pipelines

“Neither the City officials or its attorney advised to wash our hands of the pipeline issue. We take citizen opinion very seriously as a council.  What was discussed and determined is that legally, a two mile zone would not solve the pipeline issue and would not benefit the City or its citizens in the long run.  We as a council and as a City supported Lee County’s resolution voicing support for the House and Senate files which were meant to strictly limit the ability of the pipeline construction and provide protections for Lee County as well as citizens of the City of West Point.”
