Area pedestrian killed Monday night

Woman was struck on Avenue L at about 11 p.m.

FORT MADISON – An area woman was struck and killed by a vehicle late Monday night in the 3400 block of Avenue L.
Fort Madison Police Chief Mark Rohloff released a statement on Tuesday saying the officers were dispatched to the area around 11 p.m. following a 911 call indicating a 64-year-old woman was in the roadway after being struck by a pick-up truck while crossing the highway.
Fort Madison Fire Department and Lee County EMS provided emergency care at the scene and transported the victim to the Fort Madison Hospital. Hours later she died from her injuries.
The driver of the truck was uninjured and is cooperating with authorities in the investigation.
Currently the Fort Madison Police Department is examining evidence and conducting interviews.
The names are being withheld pending notification to the next-of-kin and a substantially complete investigation.
Rohloff said additional information regarding the incident should be released later today.
