FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Dinner on Friday, February 27 at McAleer Hall, bringing together local business owners, community leaders, and partners for an evening of celebration, recognition, and community pride.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Chamber’s annual awards.
David Fedler was named Ambassador of the Year, recognized for above-and-beyond service and unwavering commitment to strengthening community traditions and supporting Chamber initiatives. Fedler was honored for countless volunteer hours and dedication to the Parade of Lights. What makes this even more special is that he never does it for recognition. He shows up because he cares about this community, about the families lining the streets, and about creating memories that last long after the parade is over.
The Citizen of the Year Award, sponsored by the Fort Madison Daily Democrat, was presented to Marshall Barker. This award recognizes an individual whose leadership, service, and positive influence exemplify the spirit of Fort Madison. Marshall Barker has become one of Fort Madison’s most uplifting ambassadors through his positivity and love for the community. Through the social media page “Life with Marshall,” he highlights local businesses, events, and everyday moments with humor, kindness, and gratitude. His genuine spirit and enthusiasm have brought attention to small businesses and reminded many of what makes Fort Madison special—its people. Those who know Marshall describe him as a source of encouragement whose compassion and joy leave a lasting impression.
The Chamber also partnered with the Lee County Economic Development Group to present the Community Impact Award to the North Lee County Foundation, recognizing meaningful contributions to regional growth and collaboration.
In addition to the awards program, the evening featured live entertainment by the Daniel Pappas Quartet, a live painting by local artist Gin Lammert, and spirited participation in the Cork Pull, raffle, silent auction, and live auction, all contributing to a successful fundraising effort supporting Chamber programs and initiatives throughout the year.
“We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our members, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners,” said Executive Director Savanna Collier. “The energy in the room reflected what makes Fort Madison special- people who care deeply about their businesses and their community.”
