FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 2026 nominees for Citizen of the Year, sponsored by the Fort Madison Daily Democrat. Nominations were accepted throughout the month of January, recognizing individuals who make a meaningful impact on our community through service, leadership, and a genuine commitment to Fort Madison.
This year’s nominees are Jordan Prado and Marshall Barker.
Jordan Prado, owner of Southeast Iowa Handyman, has been recognized for his dedication to helping residents and businesses maintain and improve their properties; especially during times of hardship and recovery. Beyond his work, Jordan has played a key role in revitalizing the historic Fort Madison Mexican Fiesta, serving in multiple leadership roles and helping transform the event into a vibrant celebration for all ages. He is also known for his generous volunteerism, supporting organizations and events across the community while quietly working to build Fort Madison up, both literally and figuratively.

Marshall Barker has become one of Fort Madison’s most uplifting ambassadors through his positivity and love for the community. Through the social media page “Life with Marshall,” he highlights local businesses, events, and everyday moments with humor, kindness, and gratitude. His genuine spirit and enthusiasm have brought attention to small businesses and reminded many of what makes Fort Madison special - its people. Those who know Marshall describe him as a source of encouragement whose compassion and joy leave a lasting impression.
The Citizen of the Year will be announced alongside the Chamber Ambassador of the Year at the Fort Madison Chamber Annual Dinner on Friday, February 27 at McAleer Hall. The evening will include live entertainment, a Cork Pull, live and silent auctions, a raffle, and a special live painting experience with local artist Gin Lammert.
Tickets and tables are available, and registration is required by February 17. To RSVP, call 319-372-5471 or email chamber@fortmadison.com.
Please join us in congratulating both nominees and thanking them for the many ways they make Fort Madison a stronger, kinder community.
