William "Bill" Gail Allen, 64, of Montrose, Iowa, formerly of Fort Madison, passed away Friday, September 11, 2026, in the MICU at The University of Iowa Hospital.
He was born August 16, 1962, in Fort Madison, Iowa to William Robert "Bob" and Joan Mary (Kern) Allen. He graduated from Fort Madison High School with the class of 1981. He earned a degree from Southeastern Community College in autobody repair. He married Barbara Marie Johnson on April 24, 1999, in Montrose, Iowa. They were married for 27 years.
Bill worked for Jim Baier, Inc., for 38 years in the auto parts department and was the Parts Manager for many of those years. He was excellent with numbers and finding the part people were looking for. He enjoyed his past and present coworkers immensely.
Survivors include his wife, Barb of Montrose; two stepsons, Derek (Sarah) Matlock of Solon and Laine (Mercedes) Matlock of West Branch; two granddaughters, Hannah and Leah Matlock of Solon; one brother, Brian (Beth) Allen, Troy, Mo.; brothers-in-law, Gary (Theresa) Johnson, Burlington, Ray (Julie) Johnson, Donnellson, Don (Dauna) Johnson, Sharpsburg, Ga; Step in-laws, Ryan (Sarah) Mueller, Falls Church, Va., and Andrea (Sean) O'Daniels, Kyle, Tx; Mother-in-law, Marjorie A. Johnson, Montrose, Father-in-law; Gary (Deb) Johnson, Kyle, Tx; Nephews; Brock (Maria) Allen, Brett (Ali) Allen, Kyler Johnson, Van (Taylor) Johnson, Ryan (Bri) Kayvan, Devin Johnson, nieces; Lindsay (Seth) Cocquit, Jessica (Aron) Kehoe, Tia (Josh) Hanna, Tessa (Micheal) Veal, several great nephews and nieces, Kim's partner, Randy VanWye, and his beloved dog, Hank. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Kimberly "Kim" Allen, and his dogs; Big Guy, Buddy and Chet.
Bill was kindhearted and generous. He was ornery and loved to joke and gossip. He had many friends and seemed to know someone everywhere he went. His love of dogs was immeasurable, and he treated his own like children. He enjoyed television and was a huge Raiders football fan, Cardinals baseball fan, and Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan. Another favorite pastime was pheasant and quail hunting with his brother, friends and his dog, Hank. He loved to spend time with all of his family, especially his granddaughters. He liked to plan and host family events.
Visitation for Bill will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. The memorial service for Bill will begin at 10:30 am Friday, September 18, 2026 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Deb Marlin officiating. Burial will be at Montrose Cemetery, Montrose.
