NEWTON – Rowan Benda and Kylie Lumino combined for an 89 and tied for 46th place at the Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 2A State Co-Ed golf tournament on Tuesday in Newton.
Lumino was a state qualifier in the girls’ state meet and Benda played in the Class 1A State Individual tennis tournament two weeks ago. Xavier’s Haley Morris and Jacob Scmit won the alternate shot 18-hole event with a 2-under 70.
Fraise goes 4-4 in win over New London
NEW LONDON – Ward Fraise went 4-4 at the plate with four runs scored and an RBI to lead Central Lee to a 16-1 win over New London in SEI Super Conference baseball Tuesday night.
Blake Davis went 3-4 with 4 RBI and got three outs on the mound. Mason Sanders got the win going four innings striking out five and walking two while allowing just one run, earned, on a hit.
The Hawks put up nine runs in the top of the fifth inning to set up a 10-run rule with Davis getting all three outs in bottom of the fifth to keep the game from going another inning.
Gage Van Ausdall and Sanders each had multi-hit games with Sanders driving in three.
The Hawks were rained out Thursday and will host Burlington Notre Dame on Friday.
HTC girls shut out Wapello
WAPELLO – The Lady Crusaders recorded their third straight shutout in a 4-0 win over Wapello on the road Tuesday night.
Sydney Jarvis has been on a tear of late in the circle for Holy Trinity Catholic. She allowed just three hits and one walk while fanning nine in the win. HTC has won 10 of their last 11.
Jarvis also led the Crusaders at the plate going 3 of 4 with 2 RBI. Kenna Gittings and McKayla Simpson had multi-hit games.
HTC stands atop the SEI Super Conference South standings at 3-2 and are now 10-3 overall.
Lady Hawks fall to New-London/W-MU
NEW LONDON – The Central Lee girls surrendered seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and fell 8-6 to New London/Winfield-Mt. Union Tuesday night on the road.
The Lady Hawks seemed to have these in control up 5-1 going into the bottom half of the sixth and had an out before a single and an error shook things up.
Elaina Barlow worked another ground out on a fielder’s choice RBI, but then allowed a single, two walks and a hit batter for two more runs before the Tigers’ Kylea Schwenker ripped a double to center driving in two more for a 7-5 lead. An error would give the Tigers another run before a pop out ended the rally.

Central Lee was able to put one on the board in top of the seventh when freshman Taylor Kratzer doubled to center and scored on a Kenna Sandoval fly out to right for the second out. Olivia Day would single bringing the tying run to the plate in Mckenna Fransk, but she would pop out to the catcher in foul territory to end the game.
The Hawks were rained out Wednesday and Thursday. They travel to Fairfield for a tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Hound boys drop two to Burlington
FORT MADISON – The Burlington Grayhounds swept a Tuesday doubleheader from Fort Madison in Southeast Conference baseball.
BHS won the opener 4-2 and the took the second game 8-2 including a five-run top of the seventh to the put the game out of reach.
Ryan Huey took the loss in the nightcap giving up two runs in the first and another in the second before being relieved. He gave up four hits while fanning two and walking two before Owen Boyer stepped in. Boyer went five innings allowing three runs two earned all in the seventh. He struck out four and walked three.
Fort Madison managed just three hits in the game, one each from Owen Weisinger, Micheal Fuller, and Brae Hill. Fuller had both RBI.
In the opener the Grayhounds got the win in the 7
th with two runs for a 4-0 lead. Fort Madison battled back with two runs in the bottom half all with two outs and two on, but a fly ball to center ended the game.
Owen Huffman took the loss going 5 1/3 scattering five hits and allowing two runs both earned. He struck out four and walked three. Hill came on in relief and gave up two runs in the seventh both earned on three hits.
Stefan Berlett led Fort Madison at the plate going 2-3 including a double. Hill had the only RBI.
The boys home game with Washington Thursday was called due to weather and will be made up at a later date. They play in a Saturday tournament at Indian Hills hosted by Centerville. Fort Madison is 2-3 in Southeast play and stand at 5-9 overall.
Rump to run at U of Iowa
FORT MADISON - Fort Madison senior Avery Rump has committed to run cross-country at the University of Iowa in 2026-2027.
The senior Bloodhounds is a four-time IGHSAU state cross country qualifier and a four-time IGHSAU/IHSAA Co-ed State Track and Field Championship qualifier.
Rump announced her decision last week.
Keokuk's Bair to run for Hawkeyes
KEOKUK - Keokuk speedster Ryan Bair has committed to run track for the University of Iowa in 2026-27.
Bair is this year's Class 3A IHSAA State Champion in the 100 (10.48) and 200 (21.45). His signing is set for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Keokuk Multi-Purpose Room.
