Raising a family isn’t easy and it definitely isn’t cheap. As a mother, I know firsthand how every dollar counts when you are working hard to provide for your children and plan for their future. That is why I was proud to support President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. This law is helping Iowa families, seniors, and children keep more of what they earn while giving them real opportunities to build financial security for the future.
One of the most impactful provisions is the new $1,000 “Trump Accounts” for newborns. Every child born after January 1, 2025, will automatically receive a $1,000 investment account from the federal government. Parents and relatives can contribute up to $5,000 each year, and the growth is completely tax free. This account works much like a retirement account but is designed to give children a strong financial foundation. If contributions are made each year and the account is left to grow, it
could be worth nearly $2 million by the time the child turns 28. That kind of security can change a child’s life.
But families need help today as well. That is why I fought to increase the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 per child. This means real dollars in the pockets of families as they pay for groceries, school supplies, and other necessities. Unfortunately, every single Democrat in Congress voted to cut this credit in half. We fought back and ensured families would receive the support they deserve.
Our seniors also deserve peace of mind. The One Big Beautiful Bill created a new $6,000 tax deduction for Americans over the age of 65. Married couples can deduct up to $12,000 from their taxable income. This is on top of the existing standard deduction and will help seniors on fixed incomes keep more of what they worked for.
Every one of these provisions was opposed by Democrats in Congress. They voted against newborn savings accounts, against the higher Child Tax Credit, and against tax relief for seniors. I voted for all of it because I believe Iowa families deserve the tools and resources to build a brighter future. And I will keep fighting in Washington to make sure they get it.

I don't think the smoke from Canada wildfires is what's tanking the air quality in Iowa, it's all the smoke MMM is blowing up Iowan's butts.
Let's break this down. Every child born gets $1000 investment account, but she doesn't care enough about them to ensure, through Medicaid, SNAP, etc., the child has food and medical care. And family can contribute up to $5000? WTH, MMM, these people are choosing between needed medical care and the electric bill being paid. I don't think investments are something at the top of their priority list.
And in case you missed it, abysmally short on OB/GYNs and maternal care with approx. 1/3 of the counties considered "maternal care deserts". Let's also not forget that the birth rate is 1.9 in Iowa and steadily declining as women opt to not have children due to the lack of bodily autonomy, an economy that doesn't allow them to sustain a family, lack of quality public education, and lack of safety if their child is disabled, Black, Brown, Indigenous, Trans, or LGBQT+.
Now lets tackle that $2200 Child Tax Credit. MMM makes it sound like that money is going to just land in the pockets of anyone who has kids. Nope. Because if one of the parents or the child doesn't have a SSN, they don't get the credit--many immigrants have not been educated about how to obtain a SSN as a non-citizen, so they're instantly denied the child credit.
To get the full amount of the Child Tax Credit, a single parent with one child has to earn at least $28,700, which is roughly $13.75/hr. in a state where the minimum wage is still $7.25. A single parent earning less than $2500 gets exactly $0. And people who earn too little to have to file taxes--they only get a portion of that $2200, adjusted based on income, up to $1700. These numbers do not offset the loss of Medicad and SNAP funding for poverty and low-income families.
And the seniors....oh how MMM likes to pretend she gives a damn about our seniors/elders. That $6000 tax break on taxable income isn't going to help one damn person who lives off SS benefits because that money isn't taxable. SS benefits for many elderly people are barely enough to live on so they require SNAP funding to put food on their table. Furthermore, seniors in Iowa are forced to be on Medicaid when they are no longer able to live independently and are placed in a nursing home and Medicaid cuts will affect if they can even afford to be in a nursing home, let alone one that is close to family and loved ones.
She can try to blame the Democrats, but the reality is, MAGAts like her want this state to be nothing but upper-middle class, cis-het, able-bodied, Christian white people. And you know what that is called? Eugenics. You know who else wanted that? The NAZIs.
