Blind has experience for mayor's office - Letter to the Editor

Posted

Dear Editor;

I am writing to support for the Mayor of Fort Madison, Melida Blind, who worked for the City of Fort Madison for 29 years. She started in the Fire/Building/Planning department. Then Melinda became the Retired and Volunteer Program Director. This meant trips to Des Moines and even on trip to Washington D.C. to meet with legislators. Then she hopped over to the Parks Department for 10 years and the last 13 years Melinda was the City Clerk. She prepared Council Packets, worked with other city boards and commissions, board minutes, and publications. That position required a lot of “I” dotting and “T” crossing.

Before the City jobs, Melinda did stints at the Daily Democrat in the newsroom and as a legal secretary at Napier, Wright, and Wolf law firm. She retired and no serves on the Housing Authority Board. Melinda was born and raised here in Fort Madison, and raised three boys here. She and her husband and boys had opportunities to move away but stayed because FM is home and our parents were here. Some of her accomplishments at the City are as follows: organized a lot of records and created a searchable database so documents could be easily found. There are 182 years’ worth of records. She also began digitizing cemetery records and a lot of behind-the-scenes items to make future workers lives easier. Melinda tells me that she has no projects for the City as there are enough things that need to be done and she doesn’t want any pet projects to cost the taxpayers. Budgets (of course) need careful scrutiny and the City needs to find ways to be more efficient. She doesn’t want to go in and say this is what she wants to do. She wants to be citizen driven as much as possible. I think she is the only candidate who truly understands what a MAYOR is supposed to do. I support Melinda Blind for Mayor of Fort Madison!!
