Bunnell, Newton win Hawk Invitational

HTC rolls New London; Central Lee falls to Mepo

DONNELLSON – Aubree Bunnell and Drake Newton captured titles at the Hawk Invitational cross-country meet Tuesday evening at Central Lee.
Bunnell ran a 21:24 to lead the girls with 30 points followed by Van Buren County 47, Louisa-Muscatine 71 and Cardinal 155.
Savannah Orton (5th), Addalie Daly (7th), Adella Adkins (8th) and McKenna Fransk (9th) all finished in the top ten as scoring runners for Central Lee.
Macy Anderson finished 13th and Evelyn Adkins finished 19th.
At the boys meet, Drake Newton paced the crowd with 17:58. Caden Crozier and Caedon Newton were in the top 10 at 7th and 9th respectively.
Other scoring runners for the Hawks were Orion St. Clair (10th) and Austin Fogarty (12th) giving the Hawks 39 points for first place. Keokuk was second with 58 points followed Van Buren with 90.

Holy Trinity rolls New London
NEW LONDON – The Holy Trinity Crusaders, No. 3 in Class 1A, rolled to a quick win over New London at New London Tuesday night.
The Crusaders almost shut out the Lady Tigers in the first set winning 25-1 and then won the next two for the sweep 25-15 and 25-6.
Brynn Denning was 13-of-13 serving with three aces and six digs. Adalyn Kruse went 13-of-16 attacking with seven kills to lead HTC at the net. Elizabeth Griffin had 11 assists. Kate Pieper had three blocks on the night.
Over the weekend the Crusaders ran into some tough competition at Knoxville.
The Crusaders beat Class 1A No. 6 North Tama 25-23, 25-14, but lost to Class 3A. No 15 Knoxville 28-26, 25-22 and fell to Grinnell 25-23, 25-23.
Kruse was 62-of-67 attacking with 24 kills on the day and was 18-of-24 serving. Griffin was a perfect 24-24 serving with an ace to go with 24 digs and 21 assists. Olivia Bendlage had 13 kills. Kymber Jones had 10 kills and Pieper had 11 kills. Calli Kruse was also perfect from the line going 28-28 with two aces and she had 36 assists. Denning had 36 assists at the tourney.

Central Lee falls to Mepo in four.
DONNELLSON – The Central Lee Lady Hawks took one set off conference front-runner Mediapolis in Southeast Iowa Super Conference volleyball action Tuesday night.
The Hawks lost 20-25, 12-25, 25-19, 11-25.
Brylee Cook had 10 kills and was 13-14 serving with 18 digs and nine assists. Addy Dill went 12-12 serving with 14 digs. Maggie Mullins  was 15-15 serving with an ace and a block. Kaylee Moeller had seven blocks in the loss.
Central Lee falls to 1-1 in the conference and 4-6 overall and travels to No. 12 Burlington Notre Dame on Thursday.

Fort Madison girls fall to Mt. Pleasant
MT. PLEASANT – The Lady Hounds took the third set off the Panthers, but Mt. Pleasant rolled to 3-1 win over Fort Madison Tuesday night in Mt. Pleasant.
The Panthers won 25-12, 25-14, 24-26, 25-20 as Fort Madison started to grab some late momentum in the Southeast Conference clash.
The loss moves the Bloodhounds to 1-2 in conference play and 7-8 overall.
Kairringtuhn Donald led in kills with 10. Lyla Smith added eight and 15 digs, and Alaina Schwerin had four kills. Jordyn Grisham had 23 assists and three blocks. Kylie Lumino was a perfect 15-15 serving with three aces.
The Hounds are off until next Monday’s HTC Classic at Holy Trinity Catholic.
