Central Lee boys at five wins in a row

WEST BURLINGTON – The Central Lee Hawks have quietly strung together five straight wins. The Hawks took down West Burlington 13-3 Tuesday night on the road following wins over Danville, Highland, Mediapolis and Fort Madison.
Blake Davis recorded four RBI all off a grand slam to center in a four-run second inning. Davis’ blast was one of four on the night by the Hawks. Wyatt Day had his second homer in as many games, a single shot, while Mason Sanders and Gage Van Ausdall also went yard at West Burlington High School.
Sanders got the win on the road going five innings allowing seven hits and two earned run while striking out five and walking two. Kellen Weber pitched two innings in relief.
The Hawks pounded out 16 hits in the win with six players having multi-hit nights led by Weber with three. He also had two RBI and two runs scored.
Caleb Bush took the loss for the Falcons. The Hawks host New London Thursday night and then are off until Tuesday when Danville comes to Donnellson.

Lady Hawks fall to Washington
WASHINGTON – Central Lee managed just two hits Wednesday night in a 4-1 loss to Washington in non-conference softball action.
Aubree Bunnell and Mckenna Fransk had the hits and Macy Butler got an RBI off a bases-loaded walk in the top of the fourth inning for the Hawks only run production.
Rayleigh Burden suffered the loss surrendering three runs, two earned on just two hits. She walked three. Macy Butler pitched in relief going 3 2/3 allowing just one hit, and one earned run.
The Hawks were coming off an 11-3 win at West Burlington Tuesday night. Central Lee remains atop of the SEI Super Conference South division at 6-3 and stands at 11-12 overall.
On Tuesday, Charli Day sparked a 7-run first inning with a solo home run to left. Olivia Day and Elaina Barlow both doubled in the inning. Olivia Day went 2-for-3 at the plate with 4 RBI and a run scored.  Barlow and Jali Hawk each had a couple RBI in the win.
Barlow got the win going all six innings allowing five hits and three runs, just one earned while striking out three and walking four.
The girls take on New London at home Tuesday night.

FM girls drop two to Fairfield
FORT MADISON – A two-run fifth inning broke open a 3-3 tie and led Fairfield to a 6-3 win in the opening game of a doubleheader Monday night at Fairfield in Southeast Conference softball action.
Fort Madison opened a 2-0 lead with two runs in the first inning. Kylie Lumino doubled to center to score Ava Fuget and then Lucia Darnell drove Lumino in with a single to left all with two outs.
But Fairfield responded with three in the top of the third. Fort Madison tied things up in the bottom of the third when Fuget doubled driving in Emma Snaadt.  The Trojans would take the lead for good in fifth with a couple runs and then added an insurance run in the top of the 7th for the win.

In the second game, the Hounds again opened with a 2-0 lead in the first but couldn’t hang on for the win as the Trojans put up crooked numbers in the second and third for eight runs and then added a run in the fifth.
Fort Madison drops to 4-6 in the Southeast and stands at 8-15 overall. They play a single game at Burlington Thursday night and then travel to Davis County on Friday to wrap up the week.

Fort Madison boys’ slump continues
FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison baseball team was swept by Fairfield Monday night 5-2 and 17-0 at Fort Madison High School.
The loss was the fourth in a row and seventh of the last eight games.
Case Fraise had a two-hit game for the Bloodhounds and scored a run. His two hits were two of only four by Fort Madison in the loss. Owen Huffman and Reece Huey had the other two hits.
Caden Rehm took the loss going 6 2/3 innings allowing eight hits and four earned runs while fanning two and walking just one. Clay Smith pitched a third in relief.
In the nightcap, Fairfield jumped all over Fort Madison scoring in all five innings before the mercy rule kicked in. Smith went three innings allowing 10 runs, nine earned on eight hits. He struck out three and walked one. Huffman threw two innings and allowed seven runs all earned on five hits while fanning four and walking three. He also had the only hit of the game, a lone single to lead off the bottom of the first inning.
A run in the bottom of the seventh inning spoiled the Bloodhounds chance of snapping their losing streak at four Tuesday night at Davis County in Bloomfield.
Fort Madison tied things up in the top of the fifth when Jay Ellison knocked in Karson Dixon for a 1-1 game. Davis County would win in a walkoff when Noah Sizemore scored Hudson Humphrey on an RBI single to left with two outs. Brae Hill suffered the loss pitching in relief of Stefan Berlett.
The Hounds fall to 3-8 in Southeast play and 8-16 overall. They play a single game at Burlington on Thursday and then are off until Monday when they travel to Washington for a doubleheader.

HTC girls' big seventh downs Van Buren
KEOSAUQUA – Claire Crabtree’s  two-out double drove in three runs in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie and lead Holy Trinity to their fourth win in a row Tuesday in Van Buren.
Kara Lake followed with a single to drive in Crabtree to set the final score. Sydney Jarvis got the win after getting a short 3-game break from the circle.
Kenna Gittings had a night at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Crabtree and Cadyn Holmes each had three RBI on the night. Jarvis drew four walks with no official at bats. The Crusaders (5-4 SEISC South, 17-5 overall) host West Burlington in a single game Friday night at South Park.
