Hawks win 3rd straight and travel to undefeated West Burlington Friday

NEW LONDON – The Central Lee Hawks rolled to a 62-24 SEI Superconference South Division win over New London Tuesday night in boys high school basketball action.
The Hawks are starting to gel under first-year coach Jonny Swanson as three players finished in double figures and 10 players got into the scoring in the win.
Central Lee is now 2-2 in conference play and 3-3 overall having won their last three games averaging more than 63 points per game. They downed Columbus 67-25 for their first win of the year after opening the year 0-3. Then the Hawks beat Danville 63-52 before their win over New London.
Junior Owen Swan put up a 12 to tie senior Brayden Wyrick for team-high honors. Swan is averaging 11 points per outing, while Wyrick is slightly ahead at 12.2 points per game.
The Hawks jumped out to a quick 20-4 1st quarter lead behind Wyrick’s nine points. The Tigers never were able to gain any traction scoring just 10 first half points against the quicker Hawks The 47-21 lead in the third period allowed Swanson to go deep into his bench and get some playing time for role players.
Will Hayes had 11 points while Carson Morrison and Ward Fraise each put up eight in the win.
Wyrick is also leading the Hawks in rebounding with 37 on the year, 25 of which are on the d defensive side. Hayes has 26 total. Kaden Swan has the team lead in assists with 18. Hayes has 14 assists.
The Hawks will face a stiff test Friday night when they travel to West Burlington to take on the undefeated Falcons (4-0, 6-0)
