Central Lee girls lose first of two with Mediapolis

The Lady Hawks wrap regular season and travel to Mediapolis Saturday.

DONNELLSON – The Central Lee girls got a sneak peak Tuesday night at what they will be facing when the post-season gets underway Saturday.
The Lady Hawks suffered an 80-42 setback Tuesday night at home to Mediapolis (16-4) with the Bulldog’s Grace Holsteen leading all scorers with 19 on the night, all in the first half.
Central Lee got behind early suffering through an early shooting drought. The Hawks didn’t get their first basket untiil three minutes left in the first period and trailing 6-0.
Mediapolis would then put up 36 points in the second half as they raced to 50-19 halftime lead with Holsteen scoring 14. Some defensive adjustments in the second half held Holsteen scoreless, but the 31-point halftime deficit proved too much to overcome.
Central Lee hit another scoring slump to start the third period converting just a 3-point play on hoop and foul on Kenna Sandoval.
The Hawks would score 20 in the final period as the Bulldogs started substituting. Lizzy Mason scored eight in the final period on the way to 14 points to lead Central Lee. Sandoval had 11 on the night.
Central Lee (6-15) will travel to Mediapolis on Saturday for a 7 p.m. Class 3A, Region 1 post-season opener.
