Teams combine for 28 runs in Hawks 17-11 win

DONNELLSON - Central Lee put up five runs in the third and sixth innings to hold off Pekin in SEI Superconference baseball Friday night in Donnellson 17-11.
Alex Sandoval and James Henningsen each had three hits and three runs scored in the win. Sandoval accounted for eight of Central Lee's runs overall with 5 RBI.
John Snider had two hits including a 3-run homer in the third inning to give Central Lee the lead.
Pekin had put up four runs in the first inning, three in the second and one in the third to lead 8-3 going into the bottom half.
Then Central Lee's offense took over putting up five in the third, two runs in each the fourth and fifth innings and then exploding for five more in the bottom of the sixth to build a seven-run cushion at 17-10.
Sandoval hit a 3-run triple off Sven Dahlstrom, who had just come on in relief, scoring Gannon Wells, Hunter Gregory and Cory Jones to highlight the late inning insurance runs.
Tom Eschman, Bo Herdrich, and Snider each had two hits in the win. Tanner DeMoss also had a hit for the Hawks.
DeMoss went two inning giving up three hits and seven runs, just one earned while fanning three and walking three. Corbin Pohren came on in relief giving up two runs, both earned on no hits and walking three. John Snider finishe things off going four innings giving up three hits, two runs and fanning four.
On Thursday, the Hawks outhit Highland six to five but lost 9-6 in Highland. The Hawks led 4-2 after two and a half, but Highland put up three runs in the third and three in the fourth to take an 8-6 lead.
Highland's Peyton Yeggy shut the Hawks down in the fifth and sixth innings and allowed just one run in the 7th in collecting the win.
Chase Johnson and Cory Jones each went three innings for Central Lee combining to allow five hits and nine runs and striking out three each.
Jones, Sandoval, Henningsen, DeMoss, Eschman and Kayden Caffee all had hits in the loss.
Central falls to 4-7 overall and 1-5 in the SEISC. They travel to Danville on Monday night for a 7 p.m. game.
