Central Lee wins Hawks Invitational

Bloodhounds win at Fairfield

DONNELLSON – Central Lee took four of the top five spots at Saturday’s Central Lee Invitational at Green Acres Golf Club in Donnellson.
Hayden Welch was medalist with a one under 71. Caleb Larson and Kaden Swan each shot a 75 and Carson Morrison came with a 76.
Fort Madison’s Cole Quittem tied Carter Jones with a 77 and took fifth overall. Jones took 6th and Central Lee’s Mylan Lowenberg carded a 78 to round out the Hawks entries.
The Bloodhounds' Rowan Benda shot an 80, the second best FM score on the day.
Brock Scheetz, of Holy Trinity Catholic, also shot an 80 and cracked the top 10. Zane Houtz had an 81 for the Crusaders and Max Kruse shot an 87 to finish 15th overall. Blake Mohrfeld carded a 90 to round out the Crusader scoring golfers. Nathan Box shot a 90 and TJ Gendron shot a 91.
For Fort Madison Lucas Helmick shot an 85 for 12th overall, Jared Jenkins had an 88, Connor Cale had a 90 and Colton Boyer shot a 97.
Keokuk was led by Mason Baker and Carter Land each with a 95.
The Hawks won the event with a 297, followed by the Hounds (330), Holy Trinity Catholic (338), Davis County 347 and Keokuk 350.

Hawk boys beat Danville 6-0
DONNELLSON - Central Lee beat Danville 6-0 Friday night in Donnellson.
Colton Taft scored the opening goal off a send from Peter Seyb for a 1-0 lead at the half, and then the Hawks scored five times in the second half with another goal by Taft, and goals by Seyb, Mason Sanders, Zach Estrada and Axton Dohman.
Estrada and Jaedin Oglesby each had two assists in the win.
Tristan Robins had five saves in the goal. The Hawks improve to 9-3 on the season and 5-2 in SEI Super Conference play. They play Hillcrest Academy at home Tuesday night.

Bloodhounds down Fairfield on the road
FAIRFIELD – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds knocked off Fairfield 3-1 Monday night in Fairfield.
Fairfield scored on a penalty kick in the first half about 22 minutes in. Then Jonah Tackett responded with a goal unassisted just four minutes later for a 1-1 tie at the break.
Tackett would score again at the 14-minute mark off an assist by Hunter Wiegand. Clay Smith with get the final goal of the night on sends from Oliver Wiese and Jack Ragar for the 3-1 final.
Keelynd Ross had two saves in the goal for the Bloodhounds who improve to 9-4-3 on the year and 7-2-1 in Southeast Conference play. They travel to Newton on Friday night.

Keokuk girls fall to Washington
KEOKUK - Washington defeated Keokuk 4-0 on Monday night. Keokuk drops to 5-9 overall 3-6 in the Southeast Conference.  Relina Wong had nine saves in 66 minutes in goal while giving up three goals.  Makenna Thomas played 14 minutes in goal saving two shots and giving up a goal.
Keokuk will close out conference play on Tuesday, May 12th against Burlington at home.  They travel to Mediapolis on Thursday and close out the regular season on May 18th at home against Burlington Notre Dame. Ellie Brewer had two shots on goal and Bella Boltz had two shots on goal. Lizzy Mason, Makenna Thomas and Kylie Watts all had shots on goal.

Hawks, Hounds open boys post-season on the road
LEE COUNTY - Fort Madison and Central Lee will open boys soccer postseason play on the road, according to the substate pairings released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association on Tuesday.
Fort Madison (9-4-3) is the third seed in Class 3A Substate 5 and will play at No. 2 seed North Scott (11-1-1) in a semifinal on May 27. Central Lee (9-3) is the fifth seed in Class 2A Substate 5 and will play at fourth seed Knoxville (6-4-4) in a quarterfinal match on May 18.
The rest of the Class 3A Substate 5 bracket has fourth seed Burlington playing at home against fifth seed Keokuk on May 19. The winner of that will get top seed and third-ranked Davenport North on May 27.
The highest remaining seed will play host to the substate final on May 29.
The Central Lee-Knoxville winner will play at top seed and fifth-ranked Williamsburg on May 27. The other side of the bracket has sixth seed Centerville playing at third seed Center Point-Urbana on May 18, with the winner playing at second seed Chariton on May 27. The highest remaining seed will play host to the substate final on May 29.
