City Band opens 2026 season Sunday

New 7 p.m. start time for Central Park City Band series

FORT MADISON - The Ft. Madison City Band, under the direction of Lisa Knipe, has brushed off the dust from their instrument cases and tuned up for the 1st Ft. Madison City Band Concert of the 2026 Summer on Sunday, June 7th at 7:00pm.  Please take note of the new starting time!  The band will perform in the Gazebo in Central Park, located at the corner of 9th Street and Ave. E.  The sponsor for the concert is the gracious Joan B. Weiser.  Food Vendors will be First Christian Church and Michbry's.  In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the First United Methodist Church, also on the corner of 9th Street and Ave. E.  There is a handicapped accessible elevator through the Chapel door or a ramp on the Avenue E entrance.
The Ft. Madison City Band will perform the following selections: Exaltation, The Chime of Liberty March, El Festivo, Rainy Days and Mondays, Clear Track Polka, The Symphonic Beatles (A Hard Day's Night, Yesterday, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Michelle and Hey Jude), Brighton Beach Concert March, You'll Never Walk Alone from Carousel and Dixieland Jamboree.
The Ft. Madison Food Pantry and Roxie's Animal Food Pantry will both collect food at Sunday's concert.  Campfire will perform prior to the concert beginning at 5:30pm.  Campfire is the the talented Heather Fuger and Lily Fuger.  Bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of great music!
The band will also accompany Rachel (Courtney) Lamb, who will sing Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffany's.  Rachel is a 2000 FMHS Graduate and is married to Jeff Lamb.  She is the daughter of Dr. David Courtney and daughter in law of Kate and Tim Lamb.  She is the director of the Ft. Madison Jr. High Show Choir, Fortissimo.
