City looking for 1970s statue

Public search underway for 1970s Central Park goose fountain.

Posted

FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Historic Preservation Commission is searching for a piece of history in Central Park.
The unique artwork was a working fountain/statue in the park depicting a goose and child.
During a storm in the 1970’s the statue was damaged and removed. Current city staff have not been able to locate the statue at city facilities.
The Historic Preservation Commission is conducting a search for the goose. Also, in the search, if there are photos or stories of our residents at Central Park during the time the statue was actively working as part of the fountain, the commission would welcome residents to share those images.
Any details or memories can be sent to Laura Liegois, City Manager at citymanage@fortmadison-ia.com or contact by phone at 319=372-7700, ext. 203.
