Council to vote on City Manager

FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison City Council will consider a resolution Tuesday to hire a new City Manager.
An offer was presented to the candidate last week, after a 90-minute closed session resulted in a unanimous 6-0 vote to have the Fort Madison Mayor Matt Mohfeld and Hinson Consulting convey the offer to the candidate that was selected from three that were brought into town several weeks ago.
The motion to make the offer was made by Councilwomen Rebecca Bowker and Donna Amandus. Of the three candidates brought into the community the night of the wine and beer walk, one was a female candidate.
Mohrfeld also appointed Councilwoman Angela Roller to assist with the negotiations process at Tuesday’s meeting.
Details of the offer have not been publicly released and the council spent close to six hours in closed session meetings to examine the qualifications of candidates brought forth by the Hinson Group.
The offer is subject to approval by resolution of the council Tuesday should it be accepted by the candidate.
The position was vacated when former City Manager David Varley resigned on May 2 of this year.
City officials worked with Hinson Consulting and Southeast Iowa Regional Planning to set up the structure of the search, which has been underway since the summer.
