County Dems to hold ice cream social

MONTROSE - The Lee County Democratic Party will hold its annual Ice Cream Social this coming Sunday, August 3rd, at 2:00 – 4:00 pm. They will be at the Riverfront, Inc., 203 N. 1^st Street, Montrose. The event is an opportunity for local Democrats and independents to enjoy desserts and ice cream while listening to speakers, meeting candidates, and enjoying the afternoon together.
Rita Hart, chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, will be speaking at the event. Other speakers will be Democratic candidates for federal and state-wide office. The candidates for federal office include State Senator Zach Wahls of Coralville, candidate for U.S. Senate. Also speaking are four candidates for Iowa U.S. House District 1. They are Christina Bohannan, University of Iowa law professor and former Iowa state representative; Bob Krause, former state representative of Burlington; Travis Terrell, Ottumwa native and activist; and Taylor Wettach, a Muscatine attorney. The candidates running for state-wide office are Nate Willems, candidate for Iowa Attorney General and Ryan Peterman, candidate for Iowa Secretary of State. Willems is a former state representative from Mount Vernon and is an attorney specializing in employment law. Peterman, a Bettendorf native, spent over a decade as a naval officer before working on policy in the Senate and returning to work with midshipmen at the Naval Academy.
