LETTER TO THE EDITOR

County resident supports Vandenberg for sheriff

Posted

Dear Editor:
I am writing to express my strong support for Elliott Vandenberg in his candidacy for Lee County Sheriff. Having had the privilege of coaching Elliott in various sports, I have witnessed first hand his exceptional work ethic, moral integrity and problem solving skills. To me these qualities are vital for a leader in law enforcement, especially in today’s challenging environment.
It’s crucial to remember that the sheriff does not work for the county board of supervisors; rather, the sheriff is hired by and swears serve and protect the people of Lee County.
Elliott understands this fundamental responsibility and is committed to ensuring that the voices of the everyone in Lee County are heard and respected. His dedication to public service is evident in his promise to have a proactive approach to crime prevention and community engagement.
I have zero concerns with current Sheriff Stacy Weber. However, as he highlights in a monotonous TV ad, paid for by defund the police advocate democrat Christina Bohannan (who by the way is from Florida, where she was employed by the Florida EPA and only moved to Iowa in 2000), Weber expresses his frustration with career politicians, but we must be cautious of those who are tantamount to the very definition of a career politician. I believe in term limits and I believe in change. If Sheriff Weber is re-elected I hope he takes the criticism he received from his deputies and the community and makes the changes necessary.
Elliott is a true public servant who prioritizes the needs of the community over politics. His focus is on building trust within the law enforcement community and between the law enforcement community and the residents of Lee County, ensuring that our sheriff's department is transparent, accountable, and responsive to the entire community's needs.

Elliott has promised a commitment to addressing the root causes of crime through innovative community programs and partnerships. He recognizes that effective policing involves collaboration and understanding, not just enforcement. His vision for Lee County emphasizes a united approach to creating a safer and more vibrant community.
I urge my fellow residents to support Elliott Vandenberg for Lee County Sheriff. His dedication to moving back to his home community to make positive changes, coupled with his strong moral compass and work ethic, makes him the right choice for the future of law enforcement in Lee County.
|As Elliott’s grandfather, Coach Jim Vandenberg, once told me, “There will come a day when you'll have to do things you don't want to, but you must, because every task, regardless of size, contributes to your vision in life”.
