FORT MADISON – The Holy Trinity boys basketball team is off to a strong start at 3-0 with a 67-40 win over Danville at Shottenkirk Gym Friday night.
The Crusaders got a balanced scoring attack led by Luke Hellige’s 18 points. Koby Jones put up 17, Layne Rung had 10.
Jones was able to put up 11 of his in the second half as Danville made adjustments to control Hellige, who had a dozen in the first half.
The Crusaders took over from the get-go starting with an 8-0 run that expanded to a 22-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bears would take a little of the momentum in the final two minutes of the first half, outscoring HTC 6-0 for a 34-20 halftime score.
But HTC would retake control out of the locker room with a 26-9 third quarter advantage and rolled to the lopsided SEI Superconference win,
Adam Sobczak had nine in the win and Corbin Van Niewaal had eight. The win moves the Crusaders to 2-0 in the SEISC and 3-0 overall. Danville falls to 0-2, 0-2.
HTC will face their toughest opponent of the season so far when West Burlington (2-0, 2-0) hosts Holy Trinity Friday night. The Crusaders then travel to W-MU for a Saturday contest.
