Charles R. Blakely, 72, of Keokuk, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
Charles was born on March 22, 1954, in Herrin, Missouri, the son of Reuben and Edna Blakely. On July 20, 1996, he was united in marriage to Jill Louise “Penny” Blakely in Keokuk. She survives.
Charles was employed as a truck driver for many years before retiring to care for his wife and grandson. He was the strong and silent type, always selfless in his sacrifice for others despite a stubborn streak a mile wide. Charles was a phenomenal cook and a skilled guitarist. He enjoyed cutting grass and mowing his yard. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a cook and barber. Charles will be missed by many, especially by his wife and his beloved dogs.
Charles is survived by his wife Jill “Penny” Blakely of Keokuk; his mother Edna Blakely; his daughter Tammy (Aaron) Smith of Wataga, Illinois, his son Jody Zohfeld of Keokuk; nine grandchildren: Cole, Riley, Gavin, Diana, Lydia, Damien, Landyn, Aiden, Cavin; and several siblings.
Charles is preceded in death by his father Reuben.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 2:30 to 3:30 pm at DeJong-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home directly following visitation. A private family graveside service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Sand Cemetery in St. Francisville, Missouri.
