LEE COUNTY - The case of the missing kangaroo has been solved.
Lee County Sheriff's deputies, according to Sheriff Elliott Vandenberg, have located and helped return the animal to owner Theresa Potter.
No details on where or how the animal was captured and returned were available, but Vandenberg said no injuries were reported to personnel or the kangaroo, no citations were issued, and the kangaroo was released on its own recognizance.
The animal had been spotted several times along Hwy. 103 and had been missing for just a couple days.
Iowa code doesn't specifically prohibit kangaroos as wild animals by definition, but permits are only granted on very narrow parameters. Potter said she is permitted and trained to house the animals.
