DiPrima cracks top 10 as Lady Hounds take 4th at Mid-Prairie

Sophomore joins junior Mara Smith on IAWrestle rankings this week

FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison Lady Hounds placed 4th at the Mid-Prairie Invitational on Friday.
Fort Madison finished with 144 points, 19.5 off the champion Western Dubuque. Mid-Prairie and West Liberty finished 2nd and 3rd in the 13-team field.
Kat DiPrima (35-2) captured first-place in the 140 lb. bracket Friday with three pins on the day, the final coming over Iowa Valley’s Kodie Holcomb at 1:55 in the first period. DiPrima was rewarded with the win this week when the sophomore cracked the top 10 at 140 in the latest IAWrestle girls' 2A rankings released Wednesday.
Junior Mara Smith remained at 6th at 130 lbs. but suffered an injury default at the end of the first period and had to end her championship match Friday with Mid-Prairie’s Ashley Farrier (31-1), earning a 2nd place finish.

Aubree Bunnell also earned a title at 145 lbs. for the Hounds. Bunnell went 3-0 on the night,  including a first round bye and a title win over Mid-Prairie’s Mardie Berry (23-10).
McKayla Schinstock (115 lbs.) and Iris Arevalo (120 lbs.) both earned second-place finishes. Arevalo lost to Class 1A 3rd-ranked Silvia Garcia-Vasquez by fall halfway through period one in the title match. Arevalo is in her second week of wrestling after suffering an injury that sidelined her early in the season. She’s 26-9 on the season.
Schinstock is 21-18 and fell to Mid-Prairie’s Gabby Gingerich just a second before the end of the first period to earn second place.
The Hounds got fourth place finishes from Briena Fenton (125 lbs.) and Maddy Emmett (170 lbs.). Lucille Zimmerman earned 5th place at 100 lbs.
