KEOKUK - The Lee County Democratic Party is hosting their annual Eppers-O’Malley Dinner on Thursday, November 13th at Meyers’ Courtyard, 629 Blondeau St., Keokuk. The social hour will be 5:30 — 6:30 p.m. and the program/dinner will follow at 7:00 p.m. Rita Hart, chair of the Iowa Democratic Party will be the headline speaker. Candidates will be available during the social hour and will be speakers for the program. The candidates for U.S. Senate are attending. Bob Krause is a former member of the Iowa House and has been a strong advocate for the rights of veterans. Nathan Sage is a former Marine, mechanic, broadcaster and former Knoxville Chamber president. Josh Turek is a two-time Paralympic gold medalist for Team USA and a State Legislator. Zach Wahls is a State Senator, advocate, author, and until recently served as the Vice President of Community Investment at Green State Credit Union, Iowa’s largest independent financial cooperative.
Candidates for U.S. House will also be attending. Christina Bohannan is a former engineer, former Iowa representative, and current University of Iowa law professor. Travis Terrell is from Ottumwa where he learned resilience. He saw neighbors work their fingers to the bone to keep food on the table. Taylor Wettach worked as a trade and national security lawyer. He quit his job and returned to Iowa when the administration began pressuring the law firm he worked at and the firm gave into the demands.
The Democratic candidates for Iowa Attorney General, Nate Willems and Iowa Secretary of State, Ryan Petermen, will also be guests and speaking to the attendees. Willems has dedicated his career to fighting for Iowa workers. He hasn’t been afraid to take on corporations who have stolen wages, ignored workers’ rights, or injured workers on the job. As Iowa Attorney General, he will continue fighting for the rights and safety of every Iowan. Petermen attended the U.S. Naval Academy before becoming a Naval officer and pilot. He later returned to the Naval Academy, where he worked closely with Academy leadership and helped lead honor education where he reinforced a culture built on personal responsibility and integrity. Jim Beres, candidate for Iowa House District 99, which includes the three northeast townships in Lee County will be speaking. He Is a Burlington attorney. There will also be a campaign announcement for Iowa House District 100, which covers all of Lee County except for the townships in District 99.
Awards will also be given to volunteers who have made significant contributions to the local party with their time, talents, and dedication.
