Summer is a great time to explore everything happening at the Santa Fe Depot Complex in Fort Madison. Beginning this season, the Fort Madison Tourism Office and the North Lee County Historical Society are excited to partner on a new Monday Farmers Market, held each week from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
While we're starting small, our goal is to create a welcoming community gathering place where residents can shop local, visit with friends, and enjoy one of Fort Madison's most historic locations. The Depot Complex offers excellent visibility, plenty of parking, air-conditioned seating areas, indoor restrooms, and even opportunities for after-hours museum tours.
Many visitors from outside the area regularly tour the museums, but more local residents are beginning to discover the treasures found within the complex. The Historic Santa Fe Baggage Room houses the Tourism Office, the Fort Madison Police & Fire Exhibit, and the impressive 1873 Silsby Fire Pumper surrounded by artifacts from the Fort Madison Fire Department.
Additional exhibits throughout the Depot Complex showcase local history, railroad heritage, Old Fort Madison, Native Sauk and Fox history, and interactive children's exhibits. The CB&Q Depot also hosts "Coffee Talk" every Tuesday at 10 a.m.
We invite everyone to visit the Monday Farmers Market and discover all there is to see, learn, and enjoy at the Santa Fe Depot Complex.
