FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Area Arts Association summer camps have been announced for this year.
The camps provide area youth who have an interest in art the opportunity for educational and creative opportunities during the summer months. All events will take place at the FMAAA, 825 Avenue G, Fort Madison unless otherwise noted.
Currently, the following classes have been scheduled:
  • From June 12-13, the FMAAA is collaborating with Mohrfeld Manufacturing and Design to offer a two-day 3-D Printing camp for children from third to seventh grade. The class will meet from 4:30-6 p.m. Friday, June 12 and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 12 (students must have adult accompaniment during the latter session.) The classes will cost $45 for FMAAA members and $60 for non-members, which will include 3-D printer pen to keep.
  • From June 23-24, there will be a two-day RE-Imagine Studio: Recycling with Craft camp. The goal will be to share LOTS of ideas about creative re-imaginings to keep kids busy all summer. The sessions at 9-11 a.m. both days will be open to youth aged 6-10 years, while the 1-3 p.m. sessions are open to youth aged 11 and up. Costs will be $18 for members and $25 for non-members.
  • From July 7-10, there will be a four-day Art Camp: the Ways of Water, which will meet every day from 9-11 p.m. The class will be open to children ages 5-8 years, although any attending five-year-olds need to have completed kindergarten. Costs will be $45 for FMAAA members and $60 for non-members.

  • From July 22 – 23, the FMAAA is collaborating with Allison Park of Pool 19 to offer a Puppet Making and Puppeteering camp for grades third through fifth. Learn to make puppets and some basics of having them tell their story.
  • From July 22-24, there will be a three-day Minecraft Mosaics camp. Explore creating with life-sized pixels. It will meet daily from 9 a.m. to noon and will be open to youth from nine to 12 years old. Costs will be $45 for FMAAA members and $60 for non-members.
The FMAAA Art Center is very fortunate to host two VISTA Summer Associates, with one dedicated to developing additional programming for the summer and fall. Please check social media or our website fortmadisonart.com for additional summer camps related to clay and other creative topics that we also hope to add during the summer.
If you are looking for a fun activity to do with your kids yourself, drop in between 11am and 4pm to do glazing. The Art Center has a variety of cups, bowls, and other items to paint at your own pace. We’ll overglaze and fire the items when we get a kiln full.
