Dear Editor:
I attended the recent debate. Elliott had clear, concise answers to all questions. I believe he was the clear winner. Ignore the noise and smokescreen and cast your vote for Vandenberg for Sheriff. His qualifications and experience are top-notch. Weber's campus wants you to believe that Elliott doesn't have administrative experience, budgetary experience, union negotiation experience, or jail experience. Neither did Weber prior to his first term. He didn't feel that jail administrator experience or chief deputy experience was necessary. Weber told me that prior to this election, IPERS advised him it would greatly increase his pension if he waited two more years to retire. He planned to be re-elected and retire mid- term. I advised him that the citizens vote for a 4-year term. Now, he wants citizens to believe he would serve 4 years if elected. I know and trust many of the law enforcement community that support Elliott. I hired some of them when I served as Sheriff.
I question the integrity of a Sheriff that seeks reelection to sweeten his pension. Again, I encourage you to vote for Elliott Vandenberg for Sheriff.
Jim Spike Sholl, Sheriff, retired.
