Four Lady Hounds named to SEC first team

Wellman named Co-Player of the Year in boys play

FORT MADISON - Four Fort Madison players were named to the Southeast Conference girls soccer all-conference team.
Goalkeeper Taylor Johnson, forwards Teagan Snaadt and Hadley Wolfe, and defender Camille Kruse were named to the list from the Bloodhounds, who finished second in the conference and reached the Class 2A regional finals.
Johnson, a junior, had 109 saves in 17 games, finishing with an 85.2% save average.
Wolfe, a freshman, led the Bloodhounds with 21 goals, adding seven assists.
Snaadt, a sophomore, had 20 goals and had nine assists.
Kruse, a senior, was one of the anchors of the defense for the Bloodhounds, who recorded eight shutouts this season.
Freshman Halle Menke and sophomore Bailey Vaughn were named to the honorable mention list. Menke had three goals and a team-high 11 assists, while Vaughn was a key part of the outside of the Bloodhounds’ defense.
Fort Madison players named to the academic all-conference list were Johnson, Kruse, Mary Kate Bendlage, Taegan Denning, Elena Galan Ardila, Jenna Hellman, Olivia Kraus, Daniela Matas, Laura Mehmert, Breeann Walston and Paetyn Wiegand.
Charice Auwerda, a sophomore from Mount Pleasant, was named the conference player of the year.
On the boys side, FMHS landed five players on the All-Conference squad including seniors Xander Wellman and Jacob Pothitakis. Juniors Nathan Bowen and Leif Boeding and sophomore Jacob Shottenkirk were also named to the team.
Wellman was naned Co-Player of the Year with Burlington's Braden Schoenen.
The Bloodhound returned from a knee injury last year that made him miss most of the season and then returned to lead Fort Madison and the SEC with 30 goals and assists with 16. Wellman's 30 goals was second best in the state in Class 3A well short of the 70 put in by Marion senior Jackson Kirsch.
Nathaniel Swigart and Henry Graham received honorable mention status.
