FORT MADISON – The Holy Trinity Catholic boys' and girls' golf teams will be looking for improvement and that will hinge on returning players and a few newcomers.
Boys' and girls' head coach John Goetz said the boys will have four seniors back from last year’s squad, including Max Kruse and Brock Scheetz, who had the 2025 season’s lowest averages.
“We’re always looking to improve. In golf, you not only compete against another team or individual, but yourself, the weather, and new courses,” Goetz said. “Some of the young kids look good so far.”
Goetz said Central Lee should be the front runner in the area, after qualifying as a team for state last year.
Other returning hitters for the boys include Blake Mohrfeld, Jameson Denning, and Nathan Box. Caleb Rea, Corby Moeller, Cooper Boylan, and Tanner Snaadt will also be vying for one of the top six spots on the varsity squad. Newcomers TJ Gendron, Zane Houtz, Cade Wilson, John Hummel, Corbin VanNiewaal, and Peyton Howard will also push for time on the course.
The Crusader boys' team qualified for districts last year as a team.
“This bunch works hard and looks to improve and have some fun,” Goetz said.
On the girls' side, Elizabeth Griffin is returning after qualifying for regional second round action in 2025. Griffin and Emma Mohrfeld had the lowest average scores last season.
“As with the boys, we’re always looking to improve. They like to practice and improve their game,” Goetz said.
Other returning Lady Crusaders include Eva Denning and Calli Kruse. Adalyn Kruse and Kelly Mueller are also on the squad, but will split time with Fort Madison’s soccer program.
Goetz said Mediapolis should lead the conference with Van Buren County and New London is also in the mix.
